Freeport Celebrates SCOPE 23RD Annual School District Awards

It was an evening of recognition and celebration during the SCOPE 23rd Annual School District Awards dinner held at Villa Lombardi’s in Holbrook on March 18. During this annual event, more than 174 individuals were recognized for their exemplary service and commitment to their school districts.

Assistant Superintendent for Educational and Administrative Services Dr. Helen Kanellopoulos was a recipient of the Administrator Service Award. Transition Coordinator Patricia Desatnick and Charles Gilreath, Freeport High School physical education teacher and varsity track coach, were also recipients of the Teacher Service Award. 

“Congratulations on these well-deserved recognitions,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kishore Kuncham said. “Your dedication and service to our students and school district is appreciated and has a significant impact on our students and their success.”

Dr. Kanellopoulos previously served the district as Assistant Superintendent for Pupil Personnel Services and Special Education. She is an innovative advocate for health and wellness and works tirelessly to provide access to mental health care for students and families. She has spearheaded initiatives including calming rooms, wellness centers and flexible furniture learning spaces throughout the district.

Ms. Desatnick’s commitment to students ensures they not only graduate successfully but are also well-prepared for life beyond high school. She actively seeks opportunities to enhance students’ readiness for the challenges of the real world making her an invaluable asset to the district. 

Ms. Gilreath recognized as Coach of the Year stands out for his unwavering dedication and inspirational impact. His passion for teaching and coaching is evident in the classroom and on the field creating an atmosphere of motivation and positivity.
