Ladies of Dodd Explore Careers in STEM

Fifty members of the Ladies of Dodd, along with students in Ms. Burke's music class and Ms. Perez's Latina Mentoring program attended a special movie premiere of "Cities of the Future" that featured guest presenter Diniece Mendes. The movie focused on what cities are doing now to innovatively combat climate change.

Ms. Mendes, a Caribbean American, is the Director of Freight Mobility at the New York City Department of Transportation. She spoke poignantly of her often lonely, but worthwhile journey to becoming an engineer.

Ms. Mendes encouraged the students to consider pursuing a career in STEM as a way to change the world. Many of the students were inspired by both the movie and her personal story of success in choosing STEM as a career option.
